Don’t forget all CTEC registrations must be renewed online by midnight Wednesday, October 31st. CTEC is no longer accepting registrations by mail.
As of January 1, 2012, CTEC has also revised it continuing education (CE) requirement to 15 hours federal (same as the IRS requirement) and five hours state. This means hours earned to meet the new IRS CE requirement can also be used to fulfill the CTEC federal CE requirement.
To renew online, CRTPs will need:
Remember CTEC-approved education providers have 45 days from the date the course was completed to report the hours earned to CTEC. CRTPs cannot renew until the education provider has uploaded the hours into the CTEC database.
Failure to meet the October 31st renewal deadline will result in a $55 late fee starting November 1st.
For information on how to get a PTIN and other new IRS requirements, visit www.irs.gov/taxpros.
Tweeti failed to meet the October 31st renewal dead line. how many more days do i have for renewal with $55 late fee.
You have until January 15, 2013 to renew. If you miss that deadline then you will have to start over and register as a new CRTP. Also, remember that by law you cannot prepare any tax returns for a fee until you are compliant with CTEC.
Having problem signing in my ctec account asking my last 6 digit of ssn and not take it ..i already did my exam plz let me know if you guy(alhabra) were able to file my exam.. maybe thats why im having this problem.
Call the CTEC office 877-850-2832. The exam would not prohibit you from signing on. One of our staff members can help.
CTEC wants to charge me a $55 late fee because the education provider could not correct my exam and transmit by 10/31/12? The provider gets 45 day grace period and we can't even get a day? Guess to be sure of getting a non Internet course results on time, we need to submit the exam to the provider by 9/15/12. I think there's a scam going on.
We understand the frustration; however, CTEC does allow tax preparers to complete the education requirements within 12 months. We try to remind tax preparers to complete it as early as possible to avoid these types of situations. That said, we understand that is not always feasible or preferable for everyone. If you want, you can write a letter to the board explaining the situation and ask that you not get charged the late fee. The next meeting is mid-November. Call our office 877-850-2832 if you would like to write a letter.
